Yerevan is one of the world's most ancient cities and reputed to be as old as Babylon and Rome. It is built on the site of the Urartu fortress of Erebuni, built by King Argistis 1 in 782BC.
The Hrazdan River, surrounded by greenery, is full of swimmers in the summer months and along its banks there are many shady cafes and restaurants.
